A LIFE Group is 5-15 people who meet together at one of the member’s home on a weekly basis. They provide a friendly atmosphere where you can meet new people, worship, participate in Bible discussions, and pray for one another. They are the compliment to the Bethel Christian Fellowship service, offering a more personal level of involvement.
The Need for Connection
We live in an increasingly impersonal world where the needs of the individual are often overlooked or ever addressed.
The desire to be heard or the joy of participation go unfulfilled. It is more and more a world of spectators. This is not what Jesus had in mind for His church. He was and is concerned for each of us individually. That is why we have made a commitment in our church to small group ministry, which we call “LIFE Groups”.
A Hurting World
People hurt and are being hurt more than we care to imagine. It would be great to snap our fingers and make it all go away. But we all know that is not possible. What is possible is a new start with Jesus. Unfortunately when we are hurting the most, church seems to be the last place we go. LIFE Groups are a place to get answers to the struggles you are going through without feeling like you have to have it all together. We don’t have all of the answers, but we do have people who gather to search the Bible to find answers, along with a fresh pot of coffee and smiles and plenty of ears to listen, and even a laugh or two, or three.
Group Discussion
Bible study in the LIFE Group does not follow the traditional classroom model of “teacher-student”, but rather a group discussion format which encourages participation. Each group has facilitators who promote your involvement in discovery of what the Bible means.
Encouragement
Many who are involved in LIFE Groups will testify that it can oftentimes be the highlight of their week because they receive so much personal encouragement. Support and care of one another is a major focus of LIFE Groups.
Meaningful Friendships
Each of us should be part of a group where strong positive relationships can be developed. Friendships built during times of need can sometimes become our best ones. In times of sickness or crisis, it is the LIFE Group members that do the caring, praying, and visitation; basically being there to meet the needs of every member of their group!
Serving the Community
Oftentimes small groups can grow inward and self-focused, almost unaware of those around them. A LIFE Group is a great way to get to know people and have their needs met, but they also are a place to meet the needs of those in the community around them through hands-on projects that show love in a practical way.
What about Children?
At some small groups children are seen as an appendage or even a nuisance to be dismissed. But, here at BCF LIFE Groups, we welcome the children to come and be part of what we are doing. We look for ways to integrate children into the “life” of the group. Children of all ages are encouraged to participate together with the adults.
